Photographed these ptarmigan while snowshoeing around St. Mary's Glacier. Have been wanting to get some in their white plumage. Thanks for looking.

Perfect exposures. I especially like the first composition.

What Bill said. I like 'em both, but the first showing the bird's talons and that shadow is especially fine.
Are they skittish at all? Almost looks like he posed for you and 300mm isn't that great a reach.

Thanks! Not very skittish. I was lying on the snow and just kept getting closer. Soon they were coming toward me!

Outstanding and getting the exposure right is no easy task. Excellent work, Dan! We missed you at the shindig.

Good detail Dan. Tough to get the exposure just right with white birds. Great job! Saw a Ptarmigan while skiing at Vail last week.

A B&W color shot, cool. They are a lot of fun to photography once you luck into finding them. With access to Guanella Pass closed the past couple of winters I haven't even tried to find them.

The first one is absolutely stunning. Your usual powerful work with wildlife Dan.

I like the fullness shown of the bird in #2.
