I finally got some free time today so followed Jason's lead and headed up to Echo Lake. Let me tell you it was a bit sketchy out on the lake. I think with the warm temps the last few days things are getting "loose.' I lost count of how many time I heard a crack from behind me. It kept me moving though.. And the cracking sound got louder as I got nearer to the middle of the lake.
I didn't custom WB so these are all florescent WB.

The wb really brought out some blues and made these lood great. I think I prefer the first one, but all 3 work very well. Really nice comps with the use of lines.

Nice shots, Bert--i think they could use just a bit more midtone contrast.

All, that's for the replies and compliments.
Lynn: It wasn't that cold out there yesterday. I'd hate to be out there today.
Stan: You're right. I added a little more midtone contrast and it made the white pop a lot more.

Nice shots! I have to give anyone who ventures out to get these kind of shots a ton of credit. As much as I want to, I just can't get myself to go out when its this cold.

Bert, I like these ice abstracts, 1 then 3. Nice range of blues in both. Possibly a slight crop off the bottom of 3 so the one main crack line does not split the image so 50/50?
I can imagine that hearing the cracking is rather alarming as you are standing in the middle. Could you hear cracking noises before you ventured out? Any idea of ice thickness?

Doug ~ I was out there for an hour or so and didn't hear the cracking until I get nearer to the middle of the lake. The only reason I went out to the middle is there were a few people ice skating so I figured it was fairly stable. I would say the thickness was probably in the range of a foot as far as I could tell, but I did notice a couple of cracks there were noticeably deep (not just surface cracks).
