Morning commute
I had to work in Frisco a couple of weeks ago and did not have to hurry to be there first thing as the work would not take all day. I took the camera to shoot if anything looked good along I-70. I tried to time it for first light at Bakerville. The first shot is from the overpass there and this is obviously Torreys Peak. This and the others were taken handheld and through my windows. A tripod was used only on the last 3 when I had time and room at the Lake Dillon overlook.
The processing is a little different than my usual approach. I have said before that the image tends to determine where I go with each one. Some may like this and some may not. I am very interested to hear what you think. :wavey:

#2 looking west from the overpass. I liked the etching quality of the light and lines

#3 We all are familiar with this little peak

#5 the view right out of the tunnel, looking at Dillon

#6 Even crows can soar like eagles sometimes

#7 There's a partial bow right in the middle of the hazy layer

and finally #8 looking back at Grays and Torreys rising above the clouds

I like the triangles in the first one. I like 8 as well. Not sure what I like in it over 7 (maybe the presence of the trees in the framing the foreground and the trees on the lake being more diminutive giving the mountains more scale.

My favorite is the first one. The light on the blowing snow provides a suggestion of the coming sun, which I find even more captivating than the direct sunlight on the peaks. Overall, looks like a rather nice commute. Certainly beats what the folks in L.A. must get to look at. Thanks for continuing to share your great work.

1&5 are my picks for the angles and glow. The wind sure looks brisk around the peaks.

Nice series, thats what I call a day going to work!

1,7,8 really standout

#1 is #1 !!!! The beautiful warm, soft glow on that blowing snow contrasts beautifully with the blues of the remainder of the image. Definitely one to stare at for a long time!

I'm glad you were able to make such a leisurely drive to work !
#1 and #8 are my favorites.

The processing looks fine. However, in #5, there appears to be a broad halo between the dark ridge and brighter sky on the left side.

Thanks everyone for your comments. This forum is doing so good right now with posts and comments! What a joy!
Bill, good eye. Probably from the shadow recovery being a bit much and maybe compression as well.

Morris, nice work on this series. I must say my favorites are #7 and 8. The overall feeling is cold cold cold... ah its nice to be in CO. Thanks for posting and sorry I don't have much more input. Sometimes a photo - just comes together and doesn't need elaboration.

Talking about commutes, here's a great shot...

Hey Chris. Where was that shot taken? That's crazy that there are no cars on the other side and so many on the one side! That's killing weather looks like to me.

Great series Morris - #1 is my favorite.

Great images! Really like all of them.

Nice series Morris! The first is my favorite. Seems the most balanced to me in both comp and exposure. #6 is very cool as well. The crow makes it.

Morris, what a great series you posted! I have to say #7 and #8 are superb, by far my favorites of the bunch! With scenery and conditions like these I'm shocked if you made it to work!

Morris,
these are really beautiful. I see this kind of images around the Tetons all the time. I have mistakenly thought because i couldn't find a perfect foreground element, and great middle ground element to go with the dramatic light and drama of a scene, that it wasn't a good photo. You proved that wrong with these shots. Thanks.

Morris, very nice series. # 7&8 are ready for Hallmark or for a travel magazine.

This is an exceptionally strong series, especially if they were within '..six feet from the car'.

#1 is just classic with those triangles in the foreground and the almost erupting peak.
I can see your attraction with #2, but I'm not quite there myself. Especially considering the company it keeps!
I prefer the horizontal view of #3 over #4 for the composition and the fact that the beautiful peak is exposed. Unfortunately, not everyone is familiar with that peak. :frown:
Processing on #5 appears to be a bit heavy handed.
Excellent composition with #6. Gives me the chills just looking at it.
I'm not too crazy about #6 because of the strong color cast and esp. when scrolling down to see the majesty of #7. That and #1 are my favorites of the lot.

And now you know more than you ever wished to know about what I thought of this series. Sorry about being so wordy, but I thought these deserved a longer response.

#2 is subtle, and a little overpowered by the rest of the set, but it's growing on me somehow. #7 is easily my favorite: great light, shapes and layers, and the peaks look nice and big. I can't quite get over the trees in the corners of #8. I also like #5 quite a bit, for the elegant comp, the cool clouds, and the rosy glow.

@Morris: That photo is from Lake Shore Drive in Chicago this morning! Abandoned cars, evacuated drivers... brrr

Wow Morris, I love your commute! 1 and 7 are my faves. 8 is nice but that evergreen on the right is distracting. Overall an outstanding series.

Love the Buffalo Mountain image and the shot of Lake Dillon with Guyot and Bald Mountain.

3, 4 and 5 have a substantial green hue casting in the shadows. White balance?
Posted by Paul Wegemann on February 2, 2011 at 8:54 PM
Nice series, Morris. I never tire of that view in #1. Nice commute. I do agree with Kane about the cast in 3, 4, and 5.

Wow--an amazing set, Morris! 4,5, and 8 stand out for me as being totally killer. I like the pp on those, but in some of them (like 1,2) its a bit too soft for me.

I like #5 and #8, the comp and lighting is superb in #8 :toast:
