I've had this little gem of a camera for a few months now. I wrote a review of it on my blog not long ago. Click the link below to see what I like and don't like about it.

Thanks for this, Bret! The photos are awesome. I have the S90 (my son is very pleased with it as a backup camera and recently got some awesome shots of Vancouver with it) and love it as a third camera.

My wife has the S90 and it was that camera that inspired me to pick up the S95 when it came out. They're just such great little pocketable cameras.

Bret, did you try a polarizer for the S95?

I don't know if it can take a polarizer or any other filters.

Lance: I've used a polarizer a couple of times by hand holding it in front of the lens but I have no idea if they make a filter or adapter for it. Good question!

Good review, Bret!

Pocket cams can be really cool, especially with RAW and other features. I picked up the similar Panasonic LX3 a while back and really love what it can do. Much like you it goes everywhere with me. Liked it so much I did an article for NPN on pocket cams last summer. While it was not a review, it was pretty much spot on with everything you put down for what you like about the S95

You're absolutely right, Darren. The S95, LX3 and several others are so small, compact and powerful that honestly, the old "if only I had a camera" excuse for missing a photo opportunity doesn't hold up any more.

Bret - I'm sure prior to buying, you did some comparing. Did you happen to look into the G-12 as well? I am considering a high-end smaller camera inaddition to my SLR. I'd be interested to know what you thought of it. I'm having trouble getting on your blog review currently, so maybe you've answered this already.

Thanks, Harry

Harry: I didn't consider the G12 for one reason: it's too big. I need a camera that I can easily slip in a pocket and carry everywhere. The G12 definitely doesn't fit that requirement. It's a great camera, and I love the articulating screen, but it didn't work for my needs. Hope that helps!

Thanks Bret - I made it to your blog, very interesting. The size of the S95 is pretty amazing. I don't need a pocket camera, just something to keep with me while cross country sking, bike rides and such where you see things thast just make you want to stop.
Thanks again, Harry

If you don't need the form factor of a pocket camera the G12 is probably a perfect choice. Glad to help, Harry.

Wow, I hopped from your blog (extremely well-written) to your website, and am thoroughly impressed. Wonderful all-around site - best layout I've seen, love your down-to-earth bio (got a good laugh at the "all-terrain pugs,"), and of course, your photos are incredible. Thanks for posting your favorite things on the web, too; very helpful! I hope to participate in one of your workshops.

Thanks so much, Rebecka! I'm particularly thankful to hear that you enjoyed my bio. I'm just not one for the pretentious bios so often found on photographer's websites and I wanted to write one that showed a bit of my personality. Really appreciate the feedback!
