Do any of you other dinosaurs have experience with Nikon's old 200 f/4 AI lens? I picked one up cheap from eBay and it seems quite good, but holy stiff focus Batman. I'm wondering if these were made this way, or if this needs to be CLAd (which wouldn't surprise me, probably never been done).

I had 2 or 3 versions of the manual focus 200/4 (both the "long" barrel and the short version), and don't recall any of them being stiff to focus. And I still have a MF 200/4 macro and a MF 300/4.5 EDIF and an old 75-150 MF "E" lens that focus smoothly. But none of these is as loose feeling as a typical auto focus lens in manual mode if that's wht you are comparing your lens to.
