You should be able to pin programs (*.exe) to the Task Bar easily. Create a shortcut on your desktop to the program and then drag and drop it to the Quick Launch bar. If this doesn't work, you may be running under a user account that does not allow such an action. Try it while running under an administrator account.
The programs or procedures that purport to be able to to pin folders to the Task Bar perform hacks to the Windows registry. Since the registry is critical to the stable operation of your OS, I wouldn't mess them.
Lance. I'm running Win 7 64 bit on both of my machines. I cannot pin folders but any program file that you have you can pin by right clicking on the icon. This works from the menus as well as the desktop. There is a command in the list to "pin to task bar"
I agree with Preston on the addon program. Don't messs with it . Yuo do not want to srew up your registery file.

This appears to be pretty safe. I'm glad you found something that works for you.
Just a thought: When you make changes to your OS, or install new programs, the safest thing to do is create a restore point before making the changes. That way, if something you've done goes south on you, you can recover from it. System Restore has gotten me out of a pickle more than once.

4 repliesWhen I googled it, I found it doesn't work for a lot of people, with a lot of complex solutions proposed.
The best solution I found was this simple program: http://www.winmatrix.com/forums/index.php?/topic/29761-windows-7-taskbar-items-pinner-pin-files-folders-and-webpages/
However, the program wouldn't work on my machine.
Does anyone know of a program like this?
Thanks.
