Was out torturing myself climbing Geneva Peak today and there are four moose that are pretty active along the road for Guanella Pass. Two calves, a bull, and cow. 1st time I've ever seen them up close (call it 10 feet- I was in my car). I know it's no secret that they're up there, but thought I would let anyone know that wanted to try and get some pics. I talked to the woman who lives out there and she said they have been pretty active mid-morning (she also said they had her trapped in her car for an hour today as they licked the salt off). I saw them around around the "13 miles to Georgetown" sign (looks like right about the point the stop plowing) around 2:30. They are pretty skittish so try not to disturb. And you all seem wilderness savy, but just in case, don't get near a moose. I think a moose in snow would make a cool pic.
I was in a rush to get out of the house this morning and forgot my camera. I won't let it happen again.

Thanks! May have to head up there. Was this the Grant side or Georgetown side?

Grant. After you head up the switchbacks and it levels out again. I think there is a campground or picnic area on the right (as your heading toward G-town). Its about 400 to 500 yards further down. Right around the area that looks like a popular cross country ski area on the left. Sorry, only been up there a few times and can't be more specific. Kind of a wide open marshy area. Looks like Moose country.

I'm thinking about renting a 100-400 next weekend and going back up, if you or anyone else is interested. Not sure if Sat or Sun (need to check with the wifey).

Thanks Lance! I know where you are talking about. Sounds like it is close to the Burning Bear Campground.
