I've been a lurker for the past couple months and figured it was time to get involved! I'm looking for honest critique and people to go shooting with!

Welcome David to our ever growing forum...we always enjoy new work! Nice capture here..great colors and I like the way the rock leads you into the scene along with the crack in the ice.
The Loch is on my short list of places to visit the next few weeks so thanks for the reminder with your post. I love the morning sunlight reflection on that ice. That rock out there seems a little distracting but something I can live with. Lastly, two things regarding the exposure; there seems to be just a tad bit too much shadow enhancemant in the foreground rock, and the horizon could use a use a 2 stop hard ND.
Nice shot and welcome.

Welcome, David. Fantastic work on your site - that Palouse Falls image is incredible, and the best I've seen from there.
I'd love to see this one larger. you can go up to 720px on the long side. 500px doesn't do it justice. that said, I'm liking this a lot. I don't know that I would have gone with such a strongly imbalanced foreground, but I'm glad you did because I think it works. You've crafted a dramatic shot without very dramatic elements; the sky is sublime and, even with the bold foreground arrangement, makes the shot. Nice work.

Welcome!
I also like how all of the foreground elements lead ones eye to the treeline and that beautiful sky.
Well thought out composition!

Thanks guys! I appreciate the kind words and the feedback. I agree with all of it and have revised. It was insanely windy this morning, the wind was literally pushing us around on the ice and if you left your pack unattended for too long a gust would take it flying across the lake haha there was no way to hold a grad handheld, but my lee holder will be here monday with a big stopper

That sky is great but I keep going back to the ice & snow formation around the rock; so unique. Great shot.

Welcome David. This is a nice comp you captured. If it was mine I would add a tad bit more contrast in the mid tones.

Great color and I like the detail in the ice.

Welcome aboard, David. Thanks for the repost. At first I wasn't sure if I liked the foreground, but the more I look at this, the more I do. I think Koveh has a good idea about the midtone contrast though. I look forward to seeing more of your work here.
