I attempted to find an interesting foreground this night as I knew the sky was going to erupt. Did I sort of succeed? I did a little focus stacking in cs5 (2 shots) and some luminosity masking. Any suggestions to improve it? I'm trying to really focus on composition lately.

I would crop this to a spot just above the large bare spot of mud..you would still have a decent foreground at that point. Color is nice!!

I see a dog with its mouth open in that bottom poodle.
Personally, I like the sky and water reflection better than the foreground. If I understand what Jack suggested about cropping, I think that it would look great as a landscape orientation.

Love the sky and your right it exploded. I'm still learning on the composition stuff and will leave that for the experts :)

I agree with the others regarding the cropping. The water in the immediate foreground looks like an oil spill and frankly isn't all that attractive. After perusing your gallery of fine images, I don't think this stands with your best.

Really nice color in the sky. Agree about the cropping.

Agree with the crop suggestion. The top section is very nice. Welcome to the RMNP!

I'll echo what John said. There's no way this compares with some of the wonderful images on your web site. I love the sky, but the foreground just doesn't cut it IMO.

Wow thanks for all the feedback guys, I appreciate it. I agree it's not my best work, just something to practice and get out of the winter funk. I like this group, I may have found a place to hang my hat
