Deer in Snow Scape
Sunday morning was pretty magical on Plainview Road, which straddles Jeffco and Boulderco. I was working on intimate landscapes along S. Boulder Creek when a small herd of deer emerged. I made a bunch of images with an 80-200 and liked this one with two does the best. It was probably good that I didn't have a longer lens with me - I surely would've used the 600 and mnissed a chance to make a nice environmental portrait.

A pretty winter shot and the deer add to the scene.

Nice capture, looks cold though.

A fine photo.

Glad you didn't break out the big guy. I really like how the deer are so well integrated into the scenery.
Couldn't have asked for a better portrait...framed by that elegant looking tree on the left and its partner in the lower right, and with a clear path ahead of them. Just an all around outstanding capture, Dave!

I join you and those who are glad you didn't pull out the bazooka lens for this shot. The snow cradled in the poplar tree and how it frames those two deer is just perfect.

Beautiful Dave! Love the snow and that tree on the left.

Your composition is very nice indeed, the deer look alert and dare i say very "cute". The doubling of the deer gives the photo repetition.

Just fantastic! Couldn't agree with John more on not pulling out the big lens. Seeing the beautiful surrounding landscape is what makes this picture in my opinion. Well done!

It is indeed fortunate you didn't have the long tele with you. While a closeup of the deer would have been nice, it is something we've all seen before. This is a more unique image that won't likely be repeated in exactly the same way ever again. Nice work with the comp and the snowy mood!

Gorgeous shot Dave. I am also glad you kept the big lens in it's case. I most enjoy that you maintained a big depth of field and everything is in focus. Great work!

Just fantastic, Dave, those deer with their parallel pose, deep in all that snowy detail.

My favorite kind of wildlife image, the environmental portrait! This is awesome! I don't really know what else to say.

Awesome shot, that could be a book cover, calendar shot, or even a postcard.

A lovely, artsy shot with the softness of all that snow framing the deer. Would also make a great Christmas card.

That's outstanding! Perfect framing in a great winter mood.
