Morris,

Since we talked about this location during the Shindig, I wanted to post a picture of it for you here. This is McWay Falls as seen from Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park on the Big Sur coast of California.

I appreciate your C&C.

PS: Before anyone mentions it, the horizon is in fact straight here. I have spent a lot of time in PS dropping ruler grid lines to make sure. What you are seeing is a trick of the colors shifting along the horizon.

Beautiful shot, Koveh. This is a place I've wanted to visit for many years, despite having driven past it at least twice (I didn't find out about it, of course, until a few years after driving by the park)

The soft pastel colors are great but what really entertains my eye is the milky white swirling wave action - it's very well done sir!!

Koveh, this is a beautiful composition, and I especially like the range of soft colors in the image. Regarding the horizon, I've always felt that the image was flawed anytime I had to offer an explanation or justification for the image. You can be technically correct about the horizon, but perhaps it would be better to forget the grid lines and just level the apparent horizon.

Don, you should definitely check out the location, as it really is quite beautiful, even if your not photographing it. The beach area and rocks down are closed to access (hefty fines), which is a pro and con. The positive is that it has not been spoiled by the destruction of man, thus the incredible beauty. The only negative to the location is that it becomes a bit of a challenge trying to get a unique composition, do to the fact that every shot is from the same walkway.

Howard, thank you for the feedback! I honestly tossed that around for quite a while in my head. The issue with that approach is that on a larger view or print where the horizon can be seen in more detail, you can see the color shifts and then you would know the horizon was tilted incorrectly. Perhaps what I should have done is for the smaller web version, tilt it to seem straight and left it on the original full size image. :toast:

Any way you look at it, this is a fine, fine image! Love the colors and that itty bitty falls...I'd hang this on my wall in a heartbeat. :toast:

I like the soft light and how the shutter speed makes the wave action and water across the sand compliment the soft light. Very nice!

This is a very pretty shot Koveh! The horizon looks good to me. I've seen a shot of this place before...I recognized the little waterfall. Seems unusual to see one so near the coastline and makes it that much more of a great location.

Thanks for posting this. It's great to see after our Shindig conversation Koveh! Most images I see of this location are at midday and it's nice to view a more subtly-colored depiction of it. I like the wave action on the beach at the moment you decided to take this too.

Very beautiful indeed! My only nit is that you posted it here so small and with a frame that steals even more pixels from the image size itself.

Thanks John. Here is a larger version below from my Flickr. The site complained about the larger version even when I am linking the URL. Truly hate the image uploads here.

What a beautiful image, and a fascinating place. I think I would have lingered here for some time.

That is just such a sweet shot. Thanks for posting this after we talked about it at the shindig like Joshua said. One of the best I have seen from there. Great light and colors. I have got to get there someday, not that I will create something unique, but just to view this beautiful scene and capture it for myself.

Wow! That is a stunningly beautiful shot, Koveh. Probably one of the nicest shots I've seen of these falls. Well done! :toast:

Well done Koveh! (and the horizon looks just fine to me!)
