We just got back from a 3800 mile road trip through Oregon and California.
I had hoped for stormy weather while in Yosemite and it arrived our last day there...the downside was that it blew in good old California smog which left a strong blue haze to everything. I tried a B&W conversion with sepia to use the haze to my advantage.
I'd like your impression and thoughts on how to improve!
Thanks,

The tone works fine for me but what does not is the bright patch of snow across the image just below halfway, I would recommend darkening that because my eye is drawn to the bright spot and not the beauty of the image.

You did a good job of 'rescuing' this one using the b&w toning. I agree with Jody's comment as far as the unbroken line of snow is concerned. For some reason, the snow to the left of the dead tree left of center is fine to my eye. Probably 'cause it's patchier? Toning down some of the brighter highlights in the sky would be an asset, as well.

Good thinking with the conversion. I think it works well as does the comp. The highlights in general (both snow and clouds) might need to be toned down.

Fresh eyes are good!
Does this look any better?
I toned down the whites and broke it up a bit.
Thanks for the comments!

I would tone them down even more.

That makes a big difference, Richard. Much better!

Richard, as hard as you have worked, it is a shame that the sheer power of Yosemite is softened by the smog. Hope you get another chance to visit Yosemite when you can capture its beauty and power.

Overall, this is quite nice, and I really like the toning. The 2nd version is better although the clouds are still hot. What bugs me most though is the cutoff reflection of the tree on the right. That might just be me though, as no one else mentioned it. I'd like to see more from your trip, Richard.
