Miller Ridge + repost
Some high clouds moved across northern Arizona yesterday, so I took a drive to Sedona to catch the sunset. This is Miller Ridge looking up Bear Wallow Canyon/Schnebly Hill Road.

As PSE9 now has layer masks, I tried it for the first time. Duplicated the background layer, and darkend and saturated the sky for the mask layer.

Feel free to pic nits and offer suggestions.

The sky is certainly impressive but the overall warm color balance is also very pleasing. I like the inclusion of the foreground tree on the right. Nicely done Doug!

Nice color, I think the processing looks great!

Looks good. A little OT, I was there in November but avoided taking my rental car up Schnebly cause I read a lot of reports that it was pretty rugged. I'll be back in September with my own vehicle. Is Schnebly really a 4WD only road?

Thank you for the comments.

Bill,
4WD is not needed, but some better clearance. I saw some Toyota sedans up there yesterday, but I would want something a little higher. They might have to dodge a few of the higher rocks in the road, but it is doable.

As an aside, I guy I know works for Pink Jeep tours and was taking his motorcycle down Schnebly to work. He met a couple at the top of the hill in a Corvette who were just following what their Garmin said, as opposed to common sense. He got them to turn around and go back to I-17.

Thanks for the info, Doug. Looks like Schnebly goes on my September shoot list.

My first thoughts were "what a well balanced image!". My second thought concerns the strong magenta cast throughout. I understand a color cast at the end of the day, but this is a bit strong, affecting the small tree in the fore and the desert vegetation mid.

I saw this yesterday at work, but I wanted to wait to comment until I got back on my calibrated system at home. I'm with John on this. It's a really nice scene, well balanced, but there is certainly a color cast.

Thanks for the comments about the tint. Here is a redoux with adjustments to temp, sat and brightness. I have also considered a slight crop off the bottom, maybe 8%.

That's better, Doug. I think that your crop idea is a very good one now that I look at it.
You could even lose a similar amount on the left (cropping into the low saddle about 3/4" in).
