Canon's S95 optical zoom equivalent is 28-105mm.

In CS5, the Camera Data for a S95 photo says "Lens: 6.0-22.5mm"

Does anyone know if/how 6.0-22.5 equates to 28-105, somehow?

Thanks.

"Equivalent" refers to an equivalent angle of view. The tiny sensor in the s95 only needs a 6mm lens to cover the same angle as a 28mm lens on a full frame camera.
In all other aspects (depth of field, diffraction limits etc.) there is nothing equivalent about the lenses.

A little more info :

-- Based on those focal lengths, your sensor has a "crop factor" of 4.67 (28/6 = 4.67, 105/22.5 = 4.67).
-- This is the same as SLR crop factors, just a much higher number due to a much smaller sensor
-- Your sensor is therefore about 4.67 times smaller than a full frame 35mm size, which is 36mm wide.
-- Therefore, the S95 sensor is about 7.7 mm wide

These are a approximate - looking it up, the S95 sensor is actually 7.6 x 5.7 mm.
