Canon micro focus adjustment on Sigma lens?

I've read conflicting comments on whether you can use the 5D Mark 2 micro focus adjustment on non Canon lenses, ie, the Sigma 50mm prime lens which I am considering buying. Any body have any actual experience of their own doing this succesfuly?
