This past Saturday, Koveh and I headed for the Dunes to find that magic light I keep talking about.

We had an absolute blast hiking to Star Dune for an evening shoot. That's a tough Dune to crack. We took our time and finally made the summit. We literally had zero wind for 2.5 hrs of just hanging out. It's not often you can leave your camera bag open for an evening photo shoot in the dunes.

We watched the clouds build up at the last second too. :jump: Then sunset!

I went mostly wide this trip, Koveh seemed to be shooting alot of 30-60mm, plus he got a lot more inovative with his stuff than I did, so I'm looking forward to seeing it. Maybe he will post......

Two vertical Zeiss 21mm images stitched.

Pretty freaking sweet. We should plan an RMNP outing to the dunes.

Superb composition and light! I love how the sand ridges lead (zoom?) my eye right to the mountains and that sweet sunset light.

Kane, Very nice vantage, sunset colors and light on the sand. I like how the lines in the clouds and in the dunes funnel the eyes to the snowy peaks. If you wanted to get away from a 50/50 split, you could crop the top half of the sky and still have a great image. Either way this is nice :toast:

What great sweep and expanse this image has! Feels like the whole world is radiating out from those mountains!

Really nice! I love the sweeping, wide angle feel to this image.

Nice work and great light, Kane!

I took a look around the rest of your site... If I'm out that way, I'll totally do Long's with you. Although I think the better sunrise pictures are from the Boulderfield. Perhaps two sunrises?

I was just reading Koveh's 'landscape' post comments, wondering why it took so long to get to Star--well, now i know...you guys were taking some crazy 'scenic route'
Real pretty, Kane, i love the sky colors here. Not totally sold on the 50/50 comp, id prefer more sky/less sand here, but thats personal taste. :wavey:

Wow, awesome shot Kane! I prefer the opposite of Stan here, and like Doug's suggestion of taking the top 1/2 of the sky off, but like it as posted as well. Really terrific work here :toast:

Great work. One of the best dune shots I've seen in a while.
