Hi dose any one know if the epson 3880 can be made to print bigger than 37.4" long as I want to print 16.8"x48" & 14"x42" IE 3 to 1 pano's or do you know of a good Rip that will let the printer do it.

Correct the E3880 is the same as the 3800 and limited to 37.4" sheet length. - I don't think a RIP works either but check out the link below for chapter and verse on these printers

Aport from length limitation this series of printers are not very good at canvas printing - you have to bodge a stiff leading edge of paper/card to enable it to grab the sheet to feed through the paper path, other than that they have exceptional output - I favour the B&W output on my 3800, the three ink blacks make a huge differerence

the best web resource to investigate for the E3800 is Eric Chan, the E3880 is an incremental upgrade only.

addendum I've looked at the FAQs at Chans site and RIPS will extend the printing length, but RIP software costs seem disproportionaly high - for example the "Colurburst" X-Proof for the E-3800/3880 is $495

Thank's Mike for the info I think it would be better to get a 4880 as it will print as long as the roll of paper is but it is over £800 more  .

Yep the 4880 has buch bigger ink tanks as well making printing costs lower, I think you can get 220ml tanks? - the standard is 110ml, which at £44 per tank when mulitplied by 9 sets is a fair chunk of the new cost.

Don't underestimate the size and weight of 4880, my 3800 is just about desktop sized and I can carry it, but the next series up are definately two man jobs to manoevre around and you will need something hefty to sit it........... not Ikea/MFI chipboard
