Resizing for an 8x10 print

I use an outside photo lab to print my images. Usually for prints that are 8x12, 12x18, 16x20. Very simple - I just send the digital file (edited, sharpened, etc.) to the lab and they do the rest.

My question here is: with an 8x10 print I know I am going to lose a little of the two sides (the image I will be printing is horizontal), so can I resize my image to 8x10 allowing me the control to crop where I want before I send it off to the lab?

Do I need to resize it or crop it? I have played with both and not sure if I am doing it right.

I am using CS4. If anyone can help me that would be great.

I would recommend you do it yourself rather than allowing the lab to do it for you. Just like the other work you send them.
You can do this by choosing the Crop tool and entering the 8x10 dimensions in the Width/Height windows near the top of the screen. This will restrain the Crop tool to those dimensions when you drag it onto your image. In the Resolution window, you can add whatever number you usually choose to print with and the cropped image will reflect that resolution.

I take it your lab does not use a ROES ordering system?
