I was at the sand dunes yesterday morning. Conditions were what one might call challenging. Crazy winds, mostly overcast. The clouds to the east broke here and there, so you would get spots of light. Here's about the only thing worthwhile from the journey. Thoughts? Thanks, Josh.
I like it! The cascading look of the dunes, the looming gloom of the mountains... it's a moody and unusual take on the dunes.

You didn't just go down there and settle for something. This is truly a beauty of a shot! It really conveys the feeling of the conditions. I've got nothing like this of the dunes. Wish I did.
Thanks guys. Perhaps I should have worded it differently. I like this one, but most everything else was crap.
I ran into Chris Rice while checking out CAZ and Kalin's work in their gallery on Tennyson, and also met Neil Corman Saturday. I told them where I was headed and Chris challenged me to find something "different", so thanks Chris.
I'm glad I joined up, I value the feedback from fellow photographers, particularly of my post processing. I feel that PP is where I need some guidance from time to time.

Hey Josh,
I must say I'm with Todd on this one, as it does a great job of showing the not so ideal conditions that we don't see too often here. When I see this image, the first words that come to mind are 'noisy', 'disturbed', and 'cold'. These are pretty atypical words to describe the dunes, so I'd say you succeeded in that regard. Keep up the good work Josh!

Fine scene, and the composition is great! As far as the post-processing, I can't see a thing I would change. Well done, Joshua!

Hey, Josh--you gto there too late, should have been there for sunrise--i guess i saw you on my way out--since there was only one other car when i got back to the lot and i saw a distant person in the dunes. Anyways--cool shot, it was defintitely a crazy morning!
Haha, that's crazy. I even thought "I wonder if that's Stan?" That was me out there and my Jeep in the parking lot. It was wild out there. What did you get from up top?
Ooops, nevermind. I see your thread now.

Ha! I was even thinking, "maybe i should walk over there and say hi"--but really at that point all i wanted was the warmth of my car! You also saw me on the way out--i was taking timelapse of the clouds from the side of the road out by the Oasis--which turned out to be another bust because my tripod shook too much in the wind--so i ended up with 250+ wasted exposures--oh well, it was entertaining.

That is one awesome shot Joshua! I wouldn't be caught dead in those conditions. You and Stan are gluttons for punishment but get the kind of shots that count.

Hey Stan - are you using your 5D for timelapse? I have been doing alot of this and am ready to find myself a lightly used 10D or 20D for this purpose as those shutter counts add up FAST!!!

Looks like some nasty conditions. The very dark mountains enhance the mood.
