D3x focus problem

A freind of mine has a nikon d3x and is having problems in focusing flight subjects, can anyone help?

We need his AF setting in camera to help.

He probably has it set to focus i have mine set to release,i know some people have had problems with the d7000 and after using release it has sorted the problem but more detail wil help
