I had to make a quick trip to Grand Junction this week for work. I swear it was purely coincidence that I got everything done about 3:30 PM and I had my camera with me... I swear! Without a lot of time to find something interesting I setup by this dead tree. I kind of like it but the jury is still out. Comments? Improvements?
After reviewing this post right after posting it it looks a little more flat than what I'm seeing out of photoshop. I'll post a reply with what I am seeing on my monitor.

Hopefully this example looks more like what I ended up with on my screen. As an aside, has anyone experienced seeing a slightly flatter post than what you expected?

If you had not mentioned any flatness issues, I doubt anyone would've noticed. Before I even saw the updated version, which is even better than the original, my comment was going to be about how much dimensionality there is in the image, due to both subject comp and light.
Are you posting sRGB images? (I'm too lazy to check...)

Todd
First thinks for the comment and help. If I'm checking the right thing it's Adobe RGB. Do you mean the color profile? Is sRGB better?

The repost has much better color.
Yes, use sRGB for the web.

I like the repost better...I can see more detail. I always save for web in PS and convert to sRGB

Some real nice light and a nice scene--personally the tree feels cut off to me, would have preferred to see the whole thing.

My posts usually go darker and with more contrast. So I try to adjust for it, sometimes I guess right, sometimes I don't.
I like the shot except for the amputated tree.

This fairly shouts 'Desert!'. Todd's right about the depth you captured and the colors are sweet. Nice sky, too!

Thanks for all the comments on this one and the others. It really helps. I struggled with this one I like this crop a little better composition wise but by the time I settled on this the light was fading and there was less contrast. Here's the tree in full... better?

Between the two versions, I like the first one much better. Even though the tree is cut off in the first version, I like the composition, lighting and the sky better than the second version.

Looking at the complete tree, it almost makes me wish you had stitched two horizontal images together in #1 for the best of both versions.

Really like the vert. showing the complete tree. Great color as well.
