I've seen over the last couple of weeks images in the various galleries where the creator mentioned that they had taken the image the previous year but when watermarking the image on NPN they had a 2011 date. This raised a question, I would think specifically for all you that market your images for fine art sales. When you date your images on the print ( or if you do), do you post the date that you exposed the image in camera, or do you post the date when you developed / created / print the image?
Right now, I post the date when the image was created in camera.

When I sign prints I use the year the print was made. When watermarking files I use the year the image was made. I'm sure other people do it differently.

Mitch,

You're certainly welcome to ask the question here but my quess is that you'll get more response on the Photo Marketing forum.

For watermarking, if the purpose is to establish a copyright, the year should be the date the image was last altered.

For signing prints, you can do whatever you like. I sign with the year the photograph was created, as in my opinion that's a lot more relevant than when I happened to print it out. I do also note the date I made the print on the back.
