I have published (so far) four PDF e-books of images from my portfolio.

They are all being offered up for free (for now) on my website until the state of color image e-book publishing platforms advances further (I'd guess a year or two).

One book is images from the Sandhills / Longleaf Pines of North Carolina, another features Jordan Lake in central North Carolina.

Feel free to take a look if you are interested. . .

Hi Matthew-

Some may look at this as a non-paid promo but I think it was very nice gift to NPN members. I'm sure that a number of us have thought of doing similar PDF projects of our own work. Your open-ness is refreshing, and by the way- you do beautiful work.

Thanks Bob. Glad you enjoyed the images. I hope it was not inappropriate for me to share the link and info here.

I got the idea mainly from seeing what Joel Truckenbrod and Guy Tal had done with their e-books.

Joel has several free ebooks on his website, they are amazing, and Guy's ebook is also superb (although there is a small fee to purchase it).

Hello Matthew:

I took advantage of your offer and viewed your ebook portfolio. I must say you have an excellent eye for composition or what Michael Freeman calls the "Photographer's Eye." Your use of color on the images was exquisite, although, I agree, ebook technology needs to advance in this area. I also think that using ebooks to display photographic art is an excellent choice and certainly, the new format for an ever evolving media. I do have one question though: Did you use HDR post processing for any of your woodland images such as "Luminous Colors"? Just curious. I really enjoy working in HDR, more as an artistic pursuit than anything else. I really enjoyed your work.

Hi Gary. Thanks very much for your kind remarks and I'm glad you enjoyed the images.

I do not typically use any HDR for woodland-type images. Instead I usually photograph them in overcast light. Depending on how flat the light is, I will increase contrast in post-processing.

Regarding ebooks themselves -- I'm quite happy with, say, the ipad and its display. What I am not happy with is the current ebook self-publishing platforms. Kindle is easy to work with (my wife is an author and has self published) but, of course, black and white while ibooks still requires an ISBN #, etc.

I'm not looking to do this to make lots of money so I'm happy to let the ebook ecommerce platforms mature a bit more for color support before I pick a horse and ride it. . .

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for making these e-books available. I have always admired your work, so I had to view them. It was a wonderful experience. The pictures exhibit such grace and beauty.

I haven't heard from you in ages but it was nice to see that you have been busy working on your art.

Best wishes.

Wow Anil that's hearty praise. Thanks much!

Yes I'm definitely working on expressing myself through my art. I feel compelled to -- I know you and many of the others here feel that same irresistible need to do the same.
