Jerry Greer's comments in the recent thread by Prashant reminded me a bit of this small article by Charles Cramer. I know Cramer's original article on the P45 (posted on luminous landscape) was discussed here, so I thought some may find this interesting. It appears that capture one's RAW conversion is overly agressive. Raw Developer shows much better results, narrowing the gap between 4x5 film even further. Now if they can just do something about that price tag!

Thoughts?

I've noticed that C1Pro is aggressive with its noise filter and I have to keep it turned off. Also, I mostly only use C1Pro for images containing the sun. I think I may have to give RAW developer a look for fine detailed images without the sun.

It's funny, I've been chatting with Charles from time to time about his switch. As you can see, he's having a blast!

Jerry, I heard that C1 has integrated (or plans to integrate) Noise Ninja into its converter. Is this the aggressive noise reduction you mentioned?

Not sure Guy. I can say that C1Pro has the best noise reduction that I've ever used, that is for ones that are built in to the RAW convertor. I do feel that it works all the time though, even when setting it at its lowest. I'm going to download the trial version of Raw Developer and do a direct test. If it's that much better I may pick it up for specific usages when the image warrants it.

Well, maybe I want download the trial version, it's only for Apple. I guess they want to stay a small company

Hey Jerry, I was wrong - it's Bibble that will be including Noise Ninja, not C1.

Jerry - capture one is cross platform. I saw it being used on Macs and PC recently. Maybe you shoue go download a demo copy.

Scott - I have CaptureOne Pro ($500 bucks, ouch!). It's RAW Developer that's Apple only.
