Mayflower Gulch
Marla and I made a trip to Twin lakes last weekend and stopped at Mayflower on the way. There's a lot of snow up there - the most we've ever seen. It was snowing on and off, so I mostly photographed around the Boston Mine. Bring your snow suit if you're planning to shoot through the window!

Very cool Dave. I've always wanted to ski up there in the winter. I like this perspective.

Very nice B&W here. Can't believe how much snow is up there. I might have to do another trip out there.

Man, that's a lot of snow! Love your comp, Dave! The conversion is really well done.

Nice contrast between the sharp walls and cloudy peaks that parallel them.
I have not been to Mayflower Gulch, so had to google it. Must be a popular snowshoeing/cc spot.

Very evocative composition here. The shrouded peaks help me 'feel' the cold while the old building makes me wonder how the inhabitants of yore could withstand these winters. B&W works perfectly here.
Definitely two thumbs up. A complete success, Dave!

Man, does this ever convey a sense of cold and winter. I really like your processing on this.

Thanks for the comments - conditions are different every time up there.

Sorry Doug, this group has been so active with Mayflower over the years that I didn't think to tell anyone where it is. A stong snowshoer could get from the parking lot to the mine in :45. Average folks ~ an hour. Directions:

Take I-70 west from Silverthorne to the Copper Mountain exit (exit 195). Take route 91 south toward Leadville for 5.8 miles. The parking lot for the Mayflower Gulch trailhead is on your left.

This short, easy two mile hike leads to the site of Old Boston Mine and some of the most spectacular scenery in the Tenmile range. Hike the road to the right of Mayflower Creek past occasional mining ruins to a clearing just below the mine site.

Nice comp Dave. I like how the mountain range mimics the frame of the mine.
