Balanced Rock
From garden of the gods new years day, processed in silver efex v1 (still need to get v2) the color version of this didn't do anything for me so black and white it is, please criticize away

Besides the mind overload that I get from those clouds agains the rock, I keep sensing that the rock is floating in the air because of the extreme black area under the rock. I don't know if it's good or bad or what you had in mind, but something about this photo is just disturbing in my mind. Maybe less contrast would help? Maybe it's a little over-processed? I can't remember ever seeing a photo that bothered me in this way.
On a different point (since I'm already knee-deep into this), I would suggest that you try moving the rock a little more away from the right edge of the photo, since the bottom right of the rock is so close.
I still think that this shot has some great potential, I'm just not sure that this is it...

Jim is on to something. The rock somehow looks fake here. Needs something different process wise so it doesn't.

David, you could post the color version, which should show more separation between Balanced Rock and the background. That way maybe Jim can sleep tonight. (Darren might've had one word too many in his first sentence.)

What I see is a rock too close to the right edge of the photo, and the extreme wide angle has given the elements, all the way down to the icicles dangling from the lower right rocks, a very pronounced perspective lean. The first "disturbs" me more than the second. But if all else fails, I can just increase my Zoloft dosage.

Haha I hope you found some xanax to help you through the night Jim. I agree this shot stinks and the processing stinks too. One too many beers had me focused on the texture of the rock only and I thought it was reallll cool. I don't think it's worth pursuing this any further because the composition is so lame....so Jim will have to live in limbo hehe. Thank you for the honesty guys

Gald someone else said it first. Upon opening I thought the rock was floating also. So glad to know it was not just my eyes playing tricks. But I kind of like the picture....as a fun shot. Having been to the park, seeing the real deal, it was fun to see it shot like this.
