the pelican who ate the cormorant who ate the fish
I thought I'd share a photo that my husband took last year. He took it during a feeding frenzy that we typically witness once or twice each Fall and Spring, on the bay on which we live, when the migrating birds are following the fish. There are thousands of birds, including white and brown pelicans, coots, cormorants, egrets and herons; in fact the herons and egrets line the yards around the bay. It is quite a sight.

In this scene a cormorant had come up with a fish, but a brown pelican decided he wanted it, so he chomped on the cormorant's head. If you look closely you can make out the fish in the cormorant's beak, in the pelican's mouth. The technicals are not great but I think it quite a catch, so to speak. :)

Great catch, indeed. I like this better than a lot of tech-perfect shots.

If I am looking at it correctly, I believe that is an anhinga, not a cormorant. :toast:

Cormorant or anhinga, it's a most unusual moment captured..
Cool :wavey:

Phil, I believe you're right! I didn't pay enough attention to the shape of the beak. Thanks for the correction.
