Winter Pawnee w/ REPOST
Hello again, everyone! It feels like I never get the chance to get on here or even get out an take pictures. I finally got out to the Pawnee tonight with my daughter tonight. It's like I'm learning my camera all over again

Please tell me what you think.

#4...I'll throw one more in here with the moon and a windmill, why not.

I think that the windmill shot has the most potential, but cropped as a landscape just above the windmill and maybe offset to the right by cropping out the towers from the right side. The moon really adds nothing to the picture and the dead space greatly takes away from the subject, which I believe really is the windmill.

I find all of the generator towers in the backgrounds of the first two photos to be very unattractive.

The good news is that you got out with your daughter and shot some nice photos to share. I wouldn't consider that to be a bad thing. :wavey:

Love the windmill shot. I was obsessed with that windmill for a long time, and finally got it to work for me late one evening when I captured this image.

Personally, I'd remove the moon and leave the sky. Maybe it's years of living on a submarine, but I like expansive skies and the response they elicit from me, and rarely object to having that much negative space, especially on simple compositions such as this one. I think that's a minority opinion though, so if you're looking for broad appeal, cropping down to a square or landscape might work better.

I agree with Rick about the windmill composition. I also like the negative space, but would probably crop a little off the top and make it a 4x5.

I like the windmill shot also. It's a shame that all those wind machines get in the way of almost every shot in the grasslands now..not much you can do about it.

Farking modern windmills! They screw up just about every attempt one can make out there. If not for those, the buttes shots would be very nice. The compositions are really strong and show you've lost nothing there in your absence. As for the windmill shot, I'd go the other way and crop off the sides and make it a vertical pano. But DO NOT get rid of the moon in the process!

Nice stuff - and we have to show the turbine farms... they're a part of the landscape and the climate change/energy/fragmentation discourse.

#s 1 & 2 are my Faves, but all are sweet photographs :toast:

I hear NIK is coming out with a wind machine remover!

Thanks for all of the comments. All of you are crazy! The moon stays!

Rick - I love that pano! Very easy on the eyes.

Todd - I laughed when I saw your post because I actually had the crop tool out to make a vertical pano and decided against it.

Here's another of the windmill.

I like 3 and 4 and the last windmill shot.

Pano - PRINT IT BIG!

Agreed.

Charles, I really like the windmill shot. I also like Todd's suggestion for the vertical pano, but I might consider setting the windmill off center if it were mine.

Charlie, I really like number 4! I think the symmetry really works here. Negative space can be very powerful and I think you nailed it here. Compositionally I like how the windmill rises over the sunset color, sort of reaching above the atmosphere toward the moon. Very cool!
