This used to be one of the better forums along with my home RMNP forum. We (RMNP) are still going great guns...better than ever actually. My challenge to you folks is to get involved again...I miss all your posts and great photos!

Yup, been very quiet here lately....

You guys used to have a rockin forum here...what happened? We get new topics several times a day in our forum.
This forum slowed down considerably when membership became a requirement for posting. I don't know the stats, but it would be interesting to know what percentage of last year's posters became members. At first I thought it was just winter and the holidays, but there's more to it. Maybe the pros are too busy shooting and building their businesses to bother with posting and the amateurs can't justify the membership cost?

Our forum opted out of the gallery thing and we still post directly to the forum...I feel that has been a big plus for us. We haven't felt the loss of non member posts so much. I just know we are still extremely active and whenever it does start to slow down, we have a couple folks that do something to get the ball rolling again. I'm hoping this forum picks up because some of the best images have always appeared here.!!

I miss the participation from older members who didn't renew their membership and now aren't allowed to post. Most of the old members don't have any reason to join and pay the fees but they still could could offer their expertise and input if they could comment. I also agree the gallery is one of the reasons for the slow down. I think since the photo is going to be up for a month, folks are kind of reluctant to post anything but their best. Who wants to have a sub par image up for all to see without having to click on it to see it. This goes especially for beginners who want constructive criticism... We're going to have to get together this spring for an outing in the gorge or somewhere.

I just haven't been betting out as much as I'd like due to an annoying rotator cuff that has prevented me from packing my gear, but it's improving.
Frankly, I'm surprised that required membership would cause many to drop out. I thinks it's one of the best values out there as far as online communities go. I understand the pros and more accomplished amatuers probably aren't using it as a resource for learning and view NPN as a way to stay in touch and bring attention to upcoming workshops and such, but considering the minimal cost it a great value. Even if I only visited the site a couple times a month I would still be a member.

I think you have a good chance to revive this forum if even just a few begin to get involved. I see that 164 people have read this post but only 6 replied so far. Dig through some old photos and start to post them. I'll start with something I got last fall in Palouse. I was fortunate enough to hve Chip Phillips show me around and give me some great coaching. You all may have a gallery but I'm gonna post directly to the forum cuz that's the way we do it in RMNP! Now...let's see what you all can do here to get this forum hopping again!
For me, life and a growing small business has limited my photography and involvement with the forum I think the IC Gallery, for whatever reason, along with the membership requirements are the main factors to our slowdown here. Just an opinion. I don't mind it.
I would really enjoy a spring outing with some other members, though. They've always been enjoyable.

Jack, excellent shot of the Palouse. The lighting makes it just sing. Well done.

Nice Palouse image Jack. The glowing highlights are outstanding.
I have to admit that I'm not clear on the distinctions between the IC Galleries, the Regional Forums, and the Portfolios (well, I guess portfolios are kind of one-way communication and display of the best). The redundancy has me a bit stumped though. Seems to water things down. The real problem for me though is that I just have not been shooting, so I gotta get off my duff....
It's really hard to keep up with all the info and the great new blogs and forums. But this is my beginning. If I can help by offering my views, I'm glad to do so. If I can't be of help or support to others, then I really can't be of value. It's not just the image, whether I win an award, or even get nominated. I'm all for supporting folks to learn and grow, whatever their aspirations. I never stepped into this world of photography planning to build a business. I wanted a creative and non verbal outlet.
I'm completely in the dark about the new rules and regulations. Just wanted to say hello and see what's up.
