While goecaching (another pursuit that gets me outdoors) with my wife the yesterday in an suburban open space, we noticed a mass of yellow/orange flowers well off the trail. We walked over and found an area with several thousand poppies fully openned and looking quite beautiful. It surprised me as the poppies at our home and along the American River Parkway are just starting foliage growth let alone thinking of flowering. But a nice sign nevertheless.
Sounds like a very nice find, Peter. I have seen a few poppies in my area and this is about the time last year when they started appearing in significant numbers. My favorite location, however, was recently grazed and it may not yield many poppies this year. Care to share the location of this gem that you found?
