Hello everyone! After buying a new MacBook Pro (my old one is 5-6 years old...), I'm finally sprinting along at my digital darkroom work. Damn, this thing is fast! Got the 15" 2.3 Core i7 with 8 GB of RAM & a 256 GB SSD hard drive. Screaming. Love it!
But... I've been wondering if networked hard drives are a good option for image storage? I'd love to get rid of the drive wires and be able to access my images from anywhere in my house. Ideally, I need fast access for my Lightroom library. I like the options like the Drobo (but you lose so much storage space because of the great redundancy) and they are pretty expensive. I've considered the bare drive docks, but I'm not sure if they can be accessed over a network.
Anyone using networked drives (Apple compatible of course) that are fast & reliable? Preferably something that is upgradeable & comes with plenty of space?

Have you looked at Time Machine and Time Capsule, Apple's backup product? I use it and like it very much.

Dave I have similar situation. I have a MacBook (new last year) and a new iMac for my studio with a 2G hard drive, so I have been evaluating various backup combinations. i have looked at Drobo and like the built in redundancy. However, I'm currently favouring LaCie. Their options are endless. You can put together virtually whatever combination of current and future storage that fits your needs, and they have developed their new Thunderbolt technology in conjunction with Intel and Apple.
