This is one of those photos that demonstrates the strength and power of birds. I wish it were good enough to post for critique, but the truth is I was totally unprepared to take this kind of photo. I was visiting a known haunt of egrets on a local creek bank (I was on a high creek bluff, looking across the creek), and I had set the camera for max white (-1 EV). I spotted several cormorants swimming in the creek, and I focused on the nearest, with no intention of actually taking a picture. I got good focus, I was holding steady, so I said "What the heck?" and snapped the first photo, forgetting all about my settings. The cormorant took off and I had enough presence of mind to hold the button down and keep shooting.
I was amazed when I looked at the photo on my computer at the posture of the bird, the "rooster tail" it threw up behind and the splashes and ripples from the wet wings and the air they moved. So I thought I would share.
Phil --It does indeed show the power packed into these creatures.Perhaps not good enough for you to post but not for me. I would be pretty proud. Thanks for finding a spot to show this one.

Be careful, though. After one of these, there comes an urge to turn into a cormorantaholic.
