OT: Costa Rica
Just returned from Costa Rica and wanted to share a few photos from the trip. This one is of Arenal Volcano (lava often flows down the sides of this volcano but unfortunately it was fairly dormant when I was there). Glow in clouds likely from small town on other side of volcano.

Green Eyed Tree Frog (captive but friendly guide placed him outside in natural habitat for this shot).

Welcome home, Grant. C'mon...weren't you the least bit tempted to go native and not return?
Glad you came back to share this magnificent portfolio, though. Every single one at your site is a winner!

Nah, you can't get rid of me that easily John! I've been tempted to go native in several other countries I've visited, but I am glad to be back from Costa Rica. The scenery is great and some of the small, isolated towns are really nice. But the bars and barbed wire around every house, the need to constantly guard against having my camera gear stolen, and the crazy traffic and insane drivers made it less than a tropical paradise. The national park system there is very good but most open at 8am and close at 4pm, meaning that I had to stay away from the parks to get good light. Definitely a worthwhile place to visit, though, and I may well return someday.

Nice stuff! That waterfall shot just desperately needs a busty girl in a bikini standing in front of it. (must...resist...urge...to...mention,,,Pam's...name...here...)

I tried to get my girlfriend to pose but she was having nothing to do with it. :frown:

Cool stuff, Grant. I really like the night volcano shots. BTW, looking at the rest of the images in your newest gallery, I like the Devil's garden milky way shot! Great! You're creating some awesome, creative night photography.
I plan to be out in the desert this weekend and I'm looking forward to playing in the perigee moonlight.

Glad you had a nice trip to Costa Rica!

They are spectacular !

Great stuff, Grant, really like those starry skies. Too bad you didn't catch any lava flows. When I was there in 2006 the lava was only visible on the West edge of the NW shoulder. It appears your viewpoint was from the NE which would have put a ridge between the you and the lava assuming it was still flowing in the same spot. That Red-eyed Tree Frog pose is awesome!

Really nice shots, Grant! Those stars over Arenal are fantastic, and I always like good waterfalls and frogs.

Hey Don, Your great shots of Arenal were part of what inspired me to visit Costa Rica. My viewpoint was from the southwest side of the volcano, near the town of Castillo. Since 2007, I guess most of the lava flow has been on the SW side. But everyone I talked to said the volcano wasn't very active and I wasn't likely to see any lava. I tried 3 nights...the first two cloudy and the third night I got the above shot.
