If anyone, like me, has a Nikon V ED film/slide scanner sitting on a closet floor because you've scanned all of you old slides and don't need it anymore, they are selling at a huge markup on EBay. Apparently Nikon stopped making them a year or so ago and the used market has skyrocketed. I sold mine for $950 but I've seen them go for as much as $1100 and no less than around $800. If I remember correctly I bought mine for $400 about 6 years ago.

Now I just need to decide what new piece of equipment to spend my profit on. Maybe one of those "overpriced" pro lenses we've been debating on another thread!

Better hurry. Those lenses are going up just as fast.

A cautionary note: the drivers that shipped with these EOL'ed scanners don't work on modern operating systems. For example, the Nikon slide scanners drivers broke on Mac OS 10.5. There's a work around: VueScan does a decent job with most Nikon scanners, but it's an added fee. If you are selling you scanner, it's an issue for disclosure.

I bought my Nikon LS-4000 at just the right time for $300 just before this madness. I'm keeping a decent XP machine running for scanning, but the OS is a concern unless you're ready to move to Vuescan. Still shoot a good amount of 35mm film, so I'm keeping mine. They're great scanners.
