If there is any interest I would be glad to organize it this year. I am thinking that the dates of April 16-17 should be prime.

I would be interested to meet/see again the fine photographers who contribute to this site.

Hey Tom. Matt Kennedy and I were just discussing that this past week. We were tentatively looking at the same weekend. Zack Andrews said he would come as well. Matt was going to check with Mike and Karla to see if those dates worked for them.

Bryan, any thoughts on camping spots, etc?
Posted by Bryan Simpson on March 22, 2011 at 10:58 PM
Haven't gotten that far into the discussions. I suppose a lot will depend on where the rain falls between now and then.

I'd love to join you but I have a prior commitment. Enjoy the gathering!

I might can come for Friday and Saturday of that weekend. I have to be home Sunday night for an important engagement (grandchildren in Easter program) :) Keep me posted.

Count me in! Fairview Campground is a good candidate.

It would be great to get back down there this spring been 3 or is it 4 years since I made it to spring gathering. I'm seriously considering it but probably won't know for sure until a week or so from the date. Thanks from bringing this up Tom.

Hey Tom.
I'm in. Looking forward to it.

Hey John, I was thinking Fairview also. There are a lot of options from there. Tentatively, why don't we plan on camping at Fairview on Friday and Saturday April 15th and 16th. If someone has other ideas, let me know. We can firm up our plans in about a week.

It looks like we have at least 9 interested at this point. It will be great to see everyone again, I am looking forward to it. We just need to get some rain to bring up the creeks and waterfalls!

I am going to VERY gingerly say that I might get to be there...crossing fingers...so much going on in the real world right now my head is spinning. It is raining right now and I am thinking about trying to shoot somewhere tomorrow. :wavey:

Hope you can make it Bob. I just got back from a quick outing to the Mulberry area this morning. Spring is progressing but I think we are at least a week before we start seeing the trees start to bud for real. Some wildflowers were out in the area, but again in another week it should be good.

Meals have always been a challenge so after talking with Tom Kennon we have decided to go 'high tech' and use an online document to keep track of who is coming to each meal and what food people are volunteering to bring.
This list will also help those bringing food to determine how much to food to bring.

For the evening meal(s) you might think about something that we could warm up. We usually shoot till after dark and it is usually late when we get back to camp. Of course if you want to get back early to camp and cook that's quite alright with us.

Spring Gathering Meal Lineup

email me at photo@bluffspring.com if you have questions.

Thanks--See you at the Gathering.

Do they have fixed grills at Fairview? I am happy to provide/cook an evening meal. Burgers/brats/steaks whatever is best. I will also have plenty of MLite. But, I expect a plethora of photo conversation and consultation.

Good plan on the online document. We will keep up with this document for attendance and meals.

Jan, I am not sure about the grills but I think there are small grills at each site. Does anyone know for sure?
Posted by Dottie L Lloyd on April 3, 2011 at 10:11 PM
I don't remember any grills
Posted by Bryan Simpson on April 4, 2011 at 10:40 AM
I don't recall any grills either.

I have never attended one of these, so I don't know the protocol. But, if anyone is interested in going to Rock Creek, I will bring my Ranger and that will save a steep four mile hike. Rock Creek offers waterfalls, nice pools, and plenty of rocks. It is located south of Deer and north of Fort Douglas. It is the drainage west of the Hurricane Creek Wilderness Area. The area I go to is on the north end of the creek and is accessed from Parker Ridge Road..

Hey Jan, sound like a good idea. Look forward to seeing you next week.

Jan,
I've never been there. Sounds really good.

Dropped by Fairview this weekend and I can confirm there are not really any grills there for group cooking. One sight has a small grill but I would not use the grill. There are fire rings that we can lay a grill on.

It looks like the evening meals are taken care of. I am going to bring extra firewood. I am praying for rain.

It looks like we have a good group for the gathering according to Rod's list and the food seems to be covered nicely.

Here is an update on the water levels in the area. The upper Buffalo area got the most rain early Monday morning, about 1-1/2"- 2". The Richland area got just under 1". The forecast calls for scattered storms on Thursday and hopefully this will add to the river levels. We should have pretty flow to work with in either case, but a little more on Thursday will help the waterfalls! I drove through the area last Sunday and the signs of spring were showing nicely in the valleys with redbuds and dogwoods blooming. The higher elevations were a little behind but should be good by this weekend.

I plan on shooting somewhere early Friday and meeting up with the group in the early afternoon. I am looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend!

I have been given permission to attend for the day Saturday so I plan on getting to Fairview pretty early in the AM and trying to meet folks and attach myself to a shooting party. Hope to see you folks there. :toast:

Look forward to seeing you, Bob, any idea what time you will be there?
Posted by Wayne Rhodus on April 15, 2011 at 9:48 AM
Have fun and be safe this weekend everyone. From the looks of the radar last night it seems you may have gotten the rain you were hoping for. I'm looking forward to seeing your images.

Folks I hope to roll in about 0430 -0500 or so...I am thinking that would put me there when folks are rising.....I will try and bring some type of breakfast treat for us......15-20 folks or is that too much? :toast:

And things continue to conspire against me so no promises...if I am not there do not worry...I did not make the trip...just depends on lots of factors right now all of them out of my control.

Looks like the stars aligned and I can be for all day tomorrow., I am bringing sausage maple pancake biscuits...about 11 of them...they will be hot when I leave my house and between alum foil and a cooler maybe they will be warm after you guys wake up from 41 degree temps that are forecasted.
