I'm having issues with my CS4
Whenever I open an image in Bridge or CAMERA Raw the image seems to go dull and darker witha great lack in contrast and brightness.I looked back at my camera and the image looks great in the viewfinder . It also looks great when I pull it up on Zoombrowser. These are raw files I am talking about and I always have to boost the brightness and all kinds of things to get it looking good. What's up? I am afraid the program is not showing me what the image truly looks like and I am over procesing them to look good when they may have already beeb good.

Cheryl - It sounds to me like something in ACR is not reading the cameras default settings, or your ACR defaults got corrupted.

The camera and ZoomBrowser will be showing you a preview of the RAW file that's either 1) an embedded JPG within the RAW file, or 2) the file converted to a JPG preview with the default settings of the camera or ZoomBrowser. If you actually see the data from a RAW file dumped straight out, it will always be very very flat and pretty dim. It sounds like that's what Bridge/ACR is doing.

You could try resetting all of your Bridge settings by holding Ctrl-Alt-Shift (on a PC anyway) when starting Bridge. Or check the camera profiles settings within Bridge.

I am afraid the program is not showing me what the image truly looks like and I am over procesing them to look good when they may have already beeb good.
No worries there. When you save out of ACR, you have a JPG or TIFF or PSD. That's really the final say in what the image looks like. Without some default curves and settings, a RAW image should look relatively dim, and very flat and low contrast. What ACR is showing you is probably correct. You aren't seeing issues once you save files out of ACR, are you?

David Thanks so much for always being great help and support. I tried the above suggestions with no relief so I completely removed cs4 and re loaded it. All seems great but I still have one issue. I used to be able to click on an image jpg or tiff not raw and it would come up in cs4 now every image comes up in Raw firt every time.I then have to open it and re-convert the profile a big pain. Is there a way to get it in Photoshop only? Thanks again

There are settings in Bridge to enable and choose ACR for JPG/TIFF processing rather than Photoshop. I can't remember the exact setting. I'm guessing that will fix it.

Either way, I generally just right click a file, and select opening in either ACR or Photoshop that way.

Funny thing is, I right click and select open in: Photoshop CS4 (default) and it opens in Raw every single darn time

In PS, go to Edit->Preferences->File Handling.
Click on the 'Camera Raw Preferences..' button.
In the JPEG & TIFF Handling section, choose 'Disable...Support' for both.

Problem solved.

I have my ACR settings set to "Automatically open...with settings". This allows me to open any JPG and TIFF in ACR by right clicking. It will also open JPGs or TIFFs in ACR if they have associated ACR settings (i.e. if I've edited it in ACR previously).

So when I right click in Bridge CS4, I have three "open" options :

1) "Open" - This opens in PS unless there are ACR settings saved with the image, in which case it opens ACR (from inside PS)
2) "Open with -> Photoshop" - This opens in PS unless there are ACR settings saved with the image, in which case it opens ACR (from inside PS)
3) "Open in Camera Raw..." - Opens in ACR

If you set it the way John suggested, you don't have the option of editing JPGs and TIFFs in ACR at all. And if you've previously saved ACR settings, it should open in ACR, otherwise you're losing those settings.

I was on the phone with Adobe for 2hrs last night . We were able to fix the "open in PS" problem but I still have an issue with bridge . As the files are showing that they are loading they still become flat and dull. Also my bridge keeps crashing. He suggested I calibrate my monitor for the image problem . I need to call back after calibratiin. well see
