Jim Ehrhardt can confirm this, but I think it is a Flash function that is intended to protect the photos against easy copying. Because Flash doesn't run on iPads or iPhones, you see the "question mark."

I have no problem viewing NPN on my iPhone. . . though the ? icon is something I've experienced with multiple websites before so there is something to it.

I just tested it on my iPad and it seems to work fine.

I have noticed the same on my iPhone after I updated the OS to 4.3. I was wondering myself what's up with that but it did coincide with upgrading. Just checked..... It does not happen when I look at images on my website or deviantart.

I had the same problem after I updated the operating system to 4.3. I posted it to the iPad forum and got the response that it has to do with the memory usage of the new operating system. If the image you are viewing is above a certain file size, you see the icon in the center. I guess it denotes that it could not load all pixels, or was near the limit of its capabilities. On some of the standard photos, the files are under about 150-200K - those won't show the icon. Those above that number give the iPad fits. I've not heard anything back from the forums regarding this problem other than "it is what it is".

The new operating system is great, but if you don't want to see that icon, don't upgrade until Apple fixes this problem.

I went back and tried viewing some other images yesterday and did see the question mark on top of some photos. So it must be what Wick's talking about (though I honestly don't know what OS my device is running), and based on the file size.

My wife and I both have iPads and we see the question mark on most images.
