Now that the Regional forums are part of the general "Galleries", I have a question..
when an image is posted only in a Regional forum, is it ok for someone NOT a member of that regional forum to comment/critique?

The UK forum, for instance, often has really great avian images I'd like to comment on, but someone told me once a good while ago, that the Regional forums were more for "sharing" and not for C and C's. Then, recently, someone emailed me from a Regional forum to say (nicely) that the Regional forums were only for those in that region.

Just asking for clarification..
thanks -

Sandy

Regional galleries are open to all members to post photos and comments. Bear in mind photos posted in the RGs are not eligible for the weekly picks.

Glad you posted this, Sandy. As a noob around here I was wondering too. Didn't see anything specifically saying one way or the other but had noticed is seemed all commenters were from the same region. I'll definately start making some comments on some of those UK avian photos. Those guys are awesome with their bird photos :toast:

I participate in the RMNP and we do have people out of the region both post and comment. Typically photos posted are those taken solely within the region, with some OT shots outside the region. People that have visited the area often post images they took while they were here. We even have "regulars" who post and comment that live outside the region.

Point of clarification for the RMNP regional forum. They have a "forum" but do not have a critique gallery. So, the comment from the UK regional forum some time ago before the regional image critique galleries were created, I can agree with their comment, that it's more for sharing and regional discussions, not necessarily critique. But now, many or most of the regional forums have "image critique" galleries in addition to, the original "forum."

Regional forums and critique galleries are for specific regions of course. But I see no reason why any member of NPN can't view and/or comment. The vast majority of folks however I think would congregate in their regional forums - but nothing preventing anyone from venturing out in to the world....

Well said, Lon.

At CANP (The California group) we encourage NPN members who have questions about photo opportunities in CA to post them in our forum. We also welcome comments and critiques of imagaes posted in our gallery, and we also welcome images made within our region by NPN members who live outside CA.

The regional groups are huge resource if you are looking for region-specific information or images that may not be readily available in the other NPN forums or galleries. If you are not currently participating in your regional group, now is the time to get involved, and contribute to the fund of information, discussions, and images.

If this sounds like a recruitment drive for the regional groups, you're right!
