There is only about half the usual amount of frog and toad spawn in my garden pond this year, and I wondered if it is due to the severe winter. Any observations from you beady eyed folk?
Best wishes

Hello Philip.
I would say it is down to the severe winter and we have lost a lot of frogs this year. The water on the pond in my moms garden was frozen for over three weeks, and she gets a lot of frogs. It was very sad to see so many dead frogs when the ice finally melted. I removed over fifteen drowned frogs and I would say this is the main reason why all of the pools in my area are also very low this year.
Thanks Guy, that is the same observation which I have made. I do hope that the numbers soon recover.
Best wishes
Phil
PS Your mating shot is superb!

Strangely enough- we have had the best year ever here in the forest for Frogs and Toads. I have never seen so much !. The mallard usually gobble most of it it but this years there's plenty left.
