6. Photos posted in the RG Galleries are not eligible for the Weekly Picks so feel free to concurrently post the same photo in one of the main IC galleries
7. Photos persist for 35 days after which they are auto-deleted unless they have been assigned to your Personal Gallery
In regards to the last point above, the number of photos appearing in the RMNP IC Gallery will depend on how much the gallery is used. For example, the UKNP IC Gallery has about 400 photos in it as of this posting, but YMMV depending on how the gallery is utilized.
If you have any questions about the new gallery, please let me know.

I'm sorry Jim but I still disagree with this whole gallery thing. I have watched several forums shrink to almost nothing and membership drop like a rock. You go to those forums to get information and there haven't been posts for days or weeks!! I have worked with some of the guys on PNWNP to help rejuvenate their forum and they agree that posting pictures to the forum is the better way. I know that if we somehow get forced to go this route, then RMNP will suffer the same fate as a lot of the other forums have. As a group, we have taken the attitude that if the wheel ain't broke, don't try to fix it. I'd like feedback on just what the total membership numbers were before the change and what they are now..even though it's probably not my business.
With regard to your sentence about UKNP gallery, compare that to PNWNP and NENP and you will see that for the most part it isn't working.

Amen Jack! There was a time when we were asked about doing this, and the answer was overwhelmingly, "NO THANK YOU!" I know this site isn't a democracy, but still, I thought we got our point across pretty clearly.
Agreed. Personally, i use the RMNP posts for story telling when i have a series of photos to show, and ill post stand-alone shots for the main critique galleries.

Not true - NPN membership rate has actually increased by about 30% since last November. What you have seen is related to the new membership requirement, not the addition of RG galleries.
BTW, as I stated in my original post, use of the new gallery is entirely optional and at your own discretion, just another avenue to show/share your work.
You are welcome.
Edit
BTW, if you want to post a photo in both the forum and gallery at the same time, I see no issue with that. We could also set the gallery not to delete after 35 days so that a collection of photos from the RMNP area could be collected for everyone's enjoyment.
Regarding PNWNP, activity there dwindled down to anemic levels long before introduction of the IC gallery or membership requirements. The latter may have exacerbated the situation, but largely because it could be hard to justify the cost of membership based on the limited value that can be extracted from such sparse activity.
As far as the regional IC galleries go, the main benefit I can see is using it as a personal gallery management tool. For prolific posters, that may be of value. For me, I'm more interested in dropping images into an active discussion forum, generate some dialogue, and then move on to the next thing. Which is still an option.

What is an "IC" Gallery? Why do we need one?
Posted by Jack Garrett on April 13, 2011 at 3:58 AM
An IC gallery stands for Image Content...you can post your images to that gallery instead of the forum if you desire....each forum has one but we haven't used ours yet cuz most of us like posting to the forum. Read Jims post and you can see what benefits you may get from it.
I recommend and hope that folks continue to post their images and thoughts to this gallery as in the past. Perhaps cultural, but there is a unique, sizable and valuable community of interest and expression here that is missing from many of the other regional forums.
Discussion
9 repliesA few notes about the gallery;
1. You can upload an optional 1200 pixel/500kb photo
2. You can set a custom color background for your photo to appear on
3. Photos posted in the RMNP IC Gallery will also appear site-wide in the All Photos Gallery
4. You can assign photos to your Personal Gallery
5. You can assign photos to the Nature Prints Gallery
6. Photos posted in the RG Galleries are not eligible for the Weekly Picks so feel free to concurrently post the same photo in one of the main IC galleries
