Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for this or it should go in the Digital Imaging forum but here goes: Is there someplace either in the Lightroom Metadata panel or in Photoshop Image information that lets you know if the IS (VR for you Nikon folks) is on or off? I can find most other information but not that. I have a series of images I took while on vacation where the first 4 are really sharp and the next 8 are less, not exactly blurry but definitely not as sharp. The bird had't moved and neither had my position, everything was exactly the same, there is a small time gap between the first four and the next image and I know I turned my IS off and then on at some point during the session. My fault for not making a note of when I did that but I never thought I'd have this much difficulty finding the info. If LR(3) and CS5 don't have this information is there any data viewer that would have it?

Hank is right, but it will not show you if IS (or VR) is engaged. There's no program I'm aware of that can show you that info. as it's not imprinted in the metadata.
Both ViewNX and ViewNX2 show whether VR is on if you're using a Nikon. Canon has to have something that's comparable. Searching on the 'net may review something.
IS is indeed encoded in the metadata as you can see at this site.
Finding a program that will dig that deep into the EXIF could be a bit of a problem, though. Give Canon's own free ZoomBrowser.utility or a free trial version of Chris Breeze's much more robust BreezeBrowser a shot. There's a pretty complicated looking utility called EXIV2 (where the screenshot from the first link came from) that will work.
Would love to know whether you can solve this issue later.
Well I'm back from vacation (where I was when I posted the question) and I installed Canon's Digital Photo Professional (and what a pain that is! I can see why people don't use it) it gives plenty of info, but it's all the same info you get from doing a get info on the image in Photoshop or in the exif data panel in LR3. I'll take a look at Breeze Browser (thanks for that link John!) and EXIV2 as well, but I was hoping for something along the lines of ViewNX2 which my husband uses and has the information very easy to find (and which has the advantage of showing exactly where your focus point is) I more and more dislike proprietary formats and their deeply encoded information!
