Tonight at 9pm there's a show on the Weather Channel called "From The Edge" with photographer Peter Lik. I'm not familiar with his work but I've seen trailers of the show and it looks interesting. Especially since tonight's episode was filmed in Arches NP.
I think it might be a knock off of Art Wolff's "Travels to the Edge" but maybe a bit more intense. Guess tonight will tell.

Well, it was definitely a knock off of Art Wolff's PBS series. Might have been more interesting if he'd spent more time talking about photographic technique and less time talking about how tight the slot canyons are. Oh well....nice scenery!

One would think that there are legal implications to such a blatant rip off of a registered trademark.
I've watched two episodes and much prefer Art Wolf's style. Art does add a few comments on technique when appropriate.
I also find it strange that they couldn't think of a unique show name!
On the Hawaii episode, Lik was shooting with a Mamiya MF digital. When it came to shooting the lava flows he was definitely having problems with low light and motion, especially while shooting from a boat and helicopter. He did mention that his max ISO was 400. MF is great for his super sized prints, but obviously the wrong tool for this subject. Also, on land he couldn't get close enough, was limited to some rather short focal lengths, and gave up. It could have been a good teaching point on what he would have needed to get the shot, but they obviously didn't want to get technical.
Again, Dave? Here's my review: The show is a blatant ripoff of Art Wolff's show. As was mentioned above, they didn't even try to disguise the title. Getting a bit nit picky, the tv guide said Arches but the shooting I saw was all in slot canyons around Lake Powell. (Not bad stuff and I wasn't really disappointed but I did hope to see Arches) IMO way too much time spent hiking through the slots bemoaning the lack of "the shot." Are you kidding me? Nothing to shoot in a slot like Labyrinth? Bottom line, I won't bother to DVR it or change my schedule to be in front of the tv every Thursday night but if' it's on I'll probably watch it.
BTW, I took a look at his gallery of photos and while he has a pretty good eye, he does tend to get way too happy with the saturation for my taste.
I was actually contacted by his PR people to promote it on my blog. I ignored them They were trying to get free advertising.
I did catch the last bit of the slots section. I was not really impressed. Art's show is much superior IMHO.

C'mon guys, don't you know that PL is the World's Most Adventurous Photographer? I've also seen him dubbed he World's Greatest Landscape Photographer. And his tweets are always in ALL CAPS!
But I guess if you scream, "Look at me, and how great I am!" enough, someone will listen.
Its all about promotion, but I do have to wonder how the World's Most Adventurous Photographer would fair on a day hike and shoot with Erik, Jody, Jack or Kane.

I actually met Peter Lik a couple of years ago in Antelope Canyon. Yes, he is about as loud and energetic in person as on screen, but seemed a genuinely nice guy. Funny stuff, him telling his buddy to "throw sand like you gotta pair" and whatnot. It's all jokes with him and buddies.
The best was him asking me what I'd been shooting, and me saying "Bryce, Zion, White Pocket..." "What's White Pocket?" he asked. I about crapped myself. Here I was, standing in Antelope Canyon, telling Peter Lik the how and where about White Pocket. The guy gets a lot of hate for his success, but I thought he was a pretty cool dude.

Episode Guide/times:

The guide only lists one show time, but each episode is repeated numerous times throughout the week.

They contacted me too and I asked what PL does for conservation and said they should follow me around instead...
Bret, you need to do this too, maybe as "From the Bret Edge"
