Seattle Vacation Pics
Keep you expectations low, and you might find an image or two that looks decent!

Here are a few pics from our trip to Seattle. Mosty snapshots with a digi p&s, processed on a laptop using battery power in an airport  , and batched process using some macros rather than individually tweaked for color accuracy. Did I mention that you should keep your expectations low?

The best part of the trip - other than food - was Olympic National Park. We only did a quick one-day trip out there, but we'll definitely be going back for some serious photography and hiking. The Cascades were also very impressive - although not as 'high' as the Rockies, their rise from the valley is more dramtic in many cases. Surprisingly, the Seattle Public Library was one of my favorite photo locations - that place is unbelievable. I can't imagine trying to study there with all the wild colors, but it's an impressive architectural accomplishment.

The weather was great - rainy, windy and a little snow at Olympic. It was everything we had been hoping for. Defintely a cool and relaxing getaway after about 5 months of ridiculous hours at work. I'm looking forward to getting back to CNP and NPN a little more often, too.

that pic you posted is way cool. It looks like a clip from a Japanese animation film. Very cool indeed.

Thanks fellas! Darren - believe it or not, I didn't take any pictures while in the Cascades. We were having a nice drive and never pulled over anywhere...except when we switched out so Jennifer could drive and I could take a turn napping.

Rick - very nice photos. I walked by the library several times a few weeks ago and I would not have thought about walking in. Thanks for giving me some ideas.

Nice, I especially like the Dafodil Farms shot and the Olympic Forest shots. That issue of driving vs. stopping to take pictures is something I constantly wrestle with. I was just out in California for a week and drove by many extremely picturesque photo opportunities (very green and lush around Yosemite right now). North Cascades NP is an incredibly beautiful place that I hope to return to soon, I didn't think it would be too accessible during this time of the year.

Awesome dune shots (among others) on your site too.

I like the last arboretum shot the best, though they are all great.

Thanks again everyone!

I hear you, Lars. For me it's difficult to turn off the photographer's voice or not reach for the camera, but sometimes just sitting back and taking it in is as rewarding as photographing it. The southern section of the loop through the Cascades was open, though the snow was piled high on the side of the road - about 10-12 feet in places. It snowed a little up high as we were driving, then rain down lower. It was all good!!!
