Cock Pheasant (Portrait)
Took this one yesterday when there was a smidge of sun in Warwickshire (as you can see from the stats though, the light still wasn't brilliant!)

Any comments gratefully received.

Stats - D2X, 200-400 VR + 1.4 TC. 1/100 @ f5.6 ISO 400

Looks a like you've gone a bit overboard on trying to et detail in the shadow areas, the colours are starting to look a bit washed out.
Tricky lighting to expose for, what with a dark subject and a very bright bg; maybe fill flash would be the answer here.

Cheers,

Hi Roy,

Johns the expert on Pheasants, so I concede to his comment on the colours..., it is a nice alert pose, but I am not convinced on the comp.... perhaps take a page out of Tom W's book and try a more pano format? my main problem is the bright highlights in the bg which draw ones attention away from the main subject, perhaps tone them down...

All the best
