Anyone using final cut pro or

the final cut pro express version?

Just curious if I should skip the express version and go straight for the full version?

Thanks,
Steve

I have the full version, but I mainly just keep upgrading because I already have a full license. You'd probably be just fine with Express.

Steve, it's just like using Photoshop Elements... can you get away with it? Absolutely. ACR is a bit declawed and your options are a bit more limited, but it still has core power. So for video, Express is the same way... if you're putting clips on the timeline and syncing separate audio and applying transitions and titles and sending it out to web or DVD, yep, you're fine. There are even decent tools in Express for color grading in Post. The real FCP allows for multicam editing and timecode support and a few other pro-level niceties. I'm sure you could Google several side-by-side comparisons. I'm a Premiere user so I can't give you more details than that, but I've often heard that FCP Express is pretty robust.

It's a good question Steve. I have been looking for a good application that will allow me to create awesome slide presentations with the ability to also integrate video and audio, all on the Mac of course. Most of the camera clubs around here use Pro Show Gold, but it's only for PC, so I have been looking for a powerful application on Mac. I have seriously looked at Pulp Motion, which has some very nice tools in the Advanced version, but don't know how that compares with FCP Express or full version. Has anyone else tried Pulp Motion and compared it to FCP?

Thanks Zach, Paul, and Garry. I think the express should keep me busy for a while.

Garry I hope you find you find your answer.

Steve, Apple just released Final Cut Pro X today, at a price of $299, available in June. Might be worth a look on the Apple website.
