Ideas for a Monthly Photo Art Theme/Challenge

I need some suggestions for our first Theme/Challenge.

Simplified--like,painterly effect would be one idea of mine. Another would be B&W/monochrome.

You might try in-camera effects, minimal processing, or focus on particular processing packages and have people describe what they did.

Effects and processes are both good ideas. Another suggestion would be specific subject like farm house, or tree limb, or a specific "time" like night shots, high noon, or May Day events. Maybe one of my favorites, Horses.

Yes, I think you could borrow from some of the Weekly Challenge ideas only we could use them for Photo Art.

Thanks for clarifying this David. I think my recommendation would be to coordinate with the Weekly Challenge Gallery...and have "Photo Art Only" challenge themes embedded in their weekly listings.

Just for clarification it is up to each individual artist to decide if they want to do the theme/challenge and it is not mandatory. Any image qualifies for the weekly pick not just theme/challenge images. I am glad that Ron brought up his concerns. The theme/challenge is just a little something extra to try to mix things up a bit and help us to possibly be challenged to try something different, but again that is up to each artist if they want to participate. I hope this clears things up. I was thinking about possibly having a monthly theme/challenge so if we want to get involved we have some time to come up with something.

"Lighten up" Ron. I love the weekly challenge category, because it forces me to look at or photograph subjects that I would have never thought of. As David said, you can participate or not. I think an interesting theme would be to challenge folks to use their own version of a certain effect....and see what happens.

I think it would be fun for one image to be presented and let everyone perform their own photo art magic to the same image. I would love to see all the different possibilities that would show up!
