The Watchman
Another photograph from my trip. This is the same scene that I posted in the Landscape/ESS gallery, but this one is non-HDR, which I think turned out better.

It's another "cliche" shot, but I couldn't help myself. :-)

Hi Ryan, nice shot. I think I prefer this one over the HDR. The HDR is good, but the clouds look a little overdone. These seem much more real. Nicely done.

Ditto. This is a fantastic shot Ryan, and I much prefer this version. I love the way the light looks splashing on those hills, and that's a great sky to back it up. The composition works very well to me, lots for the eye to look at and it all ties together nicely.

I also like that you've left the foreground darker to accentuate the background, but I'd open the deepest shadows just a tad. You also might play with making the bright parts of the foreground water even a tad brighter, to lead the eye even more to the action in the distance.

The clouds were definitely over the top on my HDR version.

I think your idea about the foreground water, John.

YES---I am seeing a lot of HDR being shot( on my workshops) at times when its not needed. I a about ready to write about it.... add that to the list of things I see that are not normal!
Love the shot Ryan!

Another great scene! Being an iconic shot matters NOT, imo. The quality of light and composition sure does, though, and this is really outstanding, Ryan. I'm interested in John's idea, but I sure like this just the way it is.

I like the light and shadow on the cliffs. Nicely composed. :)
