Color Change with converstion for NPN Posting

Recently purchase ProPhoto's CaptureOne Pro6 as a RAW converter.

My final touch is with Nikon NX2.

In posting my last photo on NPN I noted the color was dramatically unsaturated and the photo darker than previous posts.

This I blame on the program desinged primarily for WEB presentations. I use it to reduce the photos I'm submitting to proper pixel size. It is an old program called PhotoImpact.

Question. What do I need to look for in this situation? I convert RAW to .jpeg. Does it matter what color space Pro6 uses? I'm new to the program and don't know where to look for abobe, DNR, etc.

Opinions, suggestions, guidance. My last NPN photo was BAD because of this.

Thanks,

No, but you definitely want the resized web verison of whatever you post online to be in the sRGB color space.
Give the free program called IrfanView a try for your resizing needs instead of PhotoImpact.
IrfanView will allow you to select that color space and is an excellent resizing app., IMO.

What browser are you viewing it in? That can have an effect. . . chrome does not play nicely with colors for instance.

The color change was noted after posting but it occurs within my own system. From Capture One to Nikon NX2 there is no change on my screen. When I go to Photoimpact for the first time I noted a marked decrease in saturation and a darker rendition.

John suggest IrfanView. It also showed the similar rendition as PhotoImpact but it has a "saturation" adjustment that brings the photo back to life.

For web browsing I use either MSN or FireFox. Doesn't seem to make any difference.

I had never noted this much change until recently.

Thanks for the inquiry.

Well, Capture One and NX2 are both color managed. Irfanview is not, so I would expect that PhotoImpact isn't either. The actual amount of difference you see is image dependent, so it could vary a lot.

My suggestion would still be to convert the image to sRGB before prepping for web posting, and leave the profile embedded. That way you get the most consistency possible across everyone's browsers.

Larry, I use NX2 to prep for the web. You can resize with an edit statement and change the color profile to sRBG. Use relative colormetric and black point compensation. Then save as a JEPG. I've never had any trouble with it.

Walt,
I'll have to do some studying on the method of which you speak.
I was NOT aware I could resize in NX2. That's nice.
And I'm not sure when/where to choose the color space. I'll check but I thought it was only for RAW and I'm importing .JPEG from CaptureOne.
If you don't mind I'l e-mail you...
