Here are a couple more shots of the Painted Hills, this time a different area. I was captivated by the stacking of hills of different colors. I took shots from 16mm to 105mm. I'm eager for which ones you like best, if any, and why.
And, if I'm allowed, here is one at 100mm, cropped for a tight pano:

You are certainly allowed, Marylynne. I think I like the first and third ones. The first one gives that wide vista feel, while the third one shows the detail and some nice lines.
It's been great seeing your shots from the Painted Hills.Makes me want to go back again...
I also have enjoyed your series of photos on the Painted Hills. In this group I'm partial to #3, mostly because I tend to shoot tighter comps. I like the quality of light and the abstract design elements in that one and think it's very nicely composed for color and interest. #2 would be my choice for a broader landscape view- less fg and sky than in #1 appeals to me because it draws the viewer right in to what you are seeing and explains to me why anyone would want to go there! Like me, sometime soon, I hope! Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks, David and Catherine. I'm thinking about going back out next weekend (yellow flowers might be blooming) but I'm also itching to hit some of the Wilderness Studies Areas for ONDA. Such a big state and so little time (and so much need for a day job ;-).

I really need to visit the area again; my first and only visit was definitely in an earlier stage of what I looked for photographically. I like #3 as well Marylynne, although I suspect a little more angled light with more shadow play would be an interesting comparison. (My day job definitely gets in the way too!)
