Another moon, this one was taken by Abiquiu lake in NM at about three in the afternoon. I've been playing with B&W, this one is a straight LR conversion. One of these days I'm going to pull the trigger on SilverFX pro. Comments, cheers, jeers, all welcome (well, maybe not all).

Even though I suspect it's not, the moon looks "placed" in this position. The tonal vignette of the sky looks a little odd, too. I'd be inclined to darken and even out the sky's tonal value.
This has some great potential!
I think that there should be more tonal separation between the sky and the rocks.
I would lighten up the reds some (if that is indeed red rock) and see what you get.
Todd: The moon was there, I spent some time waiting for it to come clear of the rocks and moving around to optimize the separation. I was looking for the composition to balance, and still had problems with it. I moved the moon 1 diameter to the left in PS and cropped from the native 2X3 to 4x5. So you are correct, I placed it a little further left than I could get it by physically moving the camera. That was a last resort decision, not something I would normally do. I thought the improvement in composition was worth it. On a different day I probably could have got the position in camera just from the variation in the moon's orbit. The variation in the sky is probably due to a poor attempt at vignetting - the sky was dead even, typical turquoise NM afternoon sky. I was trying to burn the corners and looks like I overdid it.
John: Yep, the rocks are red. Still experimenting with the B&W conversions, I'll give it another shot. This actually looks a little darker than it does in lightroom.
Thanks for the input, I will attempt a repost tomorrow.
